Niclas is an Associate Professor in Economics at the Department of Economics and Tutorial Fellow at University College. He completed his PhD in Economics at the London School of Economics in 2020. His research interests center on Energy & Environmental Economics, Development Economics and International Trade.
Niclas' research focuses on how access to energy in low income countries affects economic development. To this end, he collects new, geo-identified data on the large-scale electricity expansions in countries such as Ethiopia, Myanmar and Zambia. In his analyses, he combines reduced-form causal and structural estimation, employing tools from international trade.
