WELCOME TO THE CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF AFRICAN ECONOMIES
We are a development economics research centre based at the University of Oxford, with researchers in the Department of Economics, the Blavatnik School of Government, and the Oxford Department of International Development.
We run many events at the Centre, including the CSAE Development Economics Webinar Series and Research Workshops during term time, and several conferences and workshops throughout the academic year.
We were very sad to learn of the passing of Professor Benno Ndulu. He was a towering figure in Tanzanian and African economic development. At the same time, he was unassuming and utterly decent, a true public servant.
CSAE researchers strive to create a close and trusted network of connections with senior officials and advisors in the countries that we are working in to ensure that our research engages with the current challenges faced by policymakers and international organisations in developing countries.
Professor Pramila Krishnan discusses the importance of capacity building and her role at the CSAE in encouraging high-quality research on Africa.
CSAE CONFERENCE 2021
This year, the CSAE Conference took place across 2 weeks from 15-26 March and was entirely online! The programme included two special event days of panels and eight topic focused days with three academic paper sessions each.
