WELCOME TO THE CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF AFRICAN ECONOMIES
We are a development economics research centre based at the University of Oxford, with researchers in the Department of Economics, the Blavatnik School of Government, and the Oxford Department of International Development.
We run many events at the Centre, including the CSAE Development Economics Webinar Series and Research Workshops during term time, and several conferences and workshops throughout the academic year.
CSAE CONFERENCE 2024: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA
The CSAE Conference 2024 will take place from 17-19 March 2024 in person at St Catherine's College, Oxford, UK. The Conference is a three day event that brings together colleagues from across the development economics community to discuss Africa.
No longer accepting submissions
Decisions have now been sent to submitters for the CSAE Conference 2024. Not heard from us? Please get in touch.
We have limited funding to support conference speakers, and we like to stretch it to support as many people as we can. If awarded, funded participants will attend both a pre-conference workshop from 27-30 November 2023 in Kampala, Uganda, as well as the CSAE Conference from 17-19 March 2024, in Oxford.
OUR RESEARCH PROJECTS
CSAE researchers are working on projects across Africa and other developing countries on a range of topics from firms and labour to welfare and behaviour.
IMPROVING LABOUR MARKET OUTCOMES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN SOUTH AFRICA
Kate Orkin discusses her work as part of the Mind and Behaviour Research Group on improving labour market outcomes for young people in Johannesburg, South Africa.
CSAE researchers strive to create a close and trusted network of connections with senior officials and advisors in the countries that we are working in to ensure that our research engages with the current challenges faced by policymakers and international organisations in developing countries.
