Mathias is a DPhil student at the Environmental Change Institute whose work straddles development and environmental economics. His dissertation explores the scalability of agricultural technologies in African smallholder systems through the lens of applied microeconomics and spatial data analysis.
For his DPhil, he uses experimental and observational study designs to jointly evaluate the economic, social, and environmental effects of several agricultural technologies, and how they are mediated by climate change, violent conflict, and international trade.
