Yacine is a DPhil student at the Blavatnik School of Government. His research interests lie at the intersection of international economics, development, and geopolitics, with a focus on the European “Global Gateway” investment strategy in sub-Saharan Africa. His research topics include the developmental impact of blended finance and the effects of Europe’s economic presence in Western Africa on anti-Europe and anti-France sentiments. Before joining BSG, Yacine was a research assistant to Dr. Christian Meyer in the Oxford Martin School’s Future of Development programme. He also conducts research on taxation in Ethiopia for the Economic Policy Network. Yacine is from France and holds a “Grande École” degree in economics and sociology from École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay and an MSc in Economics for Development from the University of Oxford.
