Research Assistant in Development Economics (BSG)

Marta Grabowska is a Research Assistant at the Economics Department and the Centre for the Study of African Economies.

Marta has a BA(Hons) in Economics and History from the University of Durham and an MSc in Economics from Development from the University of Oxford. Her thesis at Oxford focused on the political budgetary cycles in Kenya and their impact on incumbent election outcomes. Her research while at the CSAE continues to be the political economy of developing countries, including projects in Kenya and South Africa. She has previously worked as a research intern for the NGO WaterSHED Asia, where she carried out the endline analysis of a training programme for women in rural areas of Cambodia.

At the Economics Department, Marta supports Kate Orkin in the administration and analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials in political economy in Kenya and South Africa. The former focuses on the impact of positive income shocks for poor households on the relationship between local politicians and the community, whereas the latter investigates the effect of providing polling information on voter turnout in closely-contested elections.
