Mattia is a Nuffield Postdoctoral Prize Fellow at the Department of Economics and Nuffield College.
He holds an MPhil in Economic History from the University of Oxford and a PhD from the London School of Economics. His research has a strong historical focus and looks at the micro-level effect of colonial policies on African development. His recent work has focused on the impact of Italian road construction in the Horn of Africa on agglomeration in the long-run and on the effect of Italian agricultural settlement in Libya between 1930 and today.
