Biography

Simon is a DPhil student in the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford. Originally from South Africa, he completed his undergraduate degree in Economics and Mathematics at the University of Cape Town, before coming to Oxford for graduate studies. He has been working on the impacts of government housing subsidies on people living in informal housing in South Africa, using panel data in conjunction with spatial planning data to find impacts on time use and labour market participation of female recipients. His DPhil work seeks to look at similar housing, public infrastructure and slum upgrading projects in the context of urban policy in Africa.
