Biography

Research Interests:

I use economic theory and econometric techniques to study development at the micro-level. My main interest is in the financial lives of poor people, including credit, savings and insurance behaviour. I currently have ongoing projects in India as well as South Africa.

Work in progress:

  • Health care and information: A randomised experiment in India (with Maitreesh Ghatak, R Manjula, D Rajasekhar and Sanchari Roy)
  • Does payment into bank accounts encourage saving? Evidence from South Africa
  • Funeral insurance
  • Liquidity constraints: A robust analysis using panel data
  • Block grants and regional development (with Jørn Rattsø)
