Call for papers

This conference will be held on 22nd to 24th March 2009, at St Catherine's College.

Papers on any topics related to African economic development, including in a comparative context, are welcome. This conference will largely consist of parallel sessions, with two plenary sessions.

UNU-WIDER is collaborating with CSAE to select a number of papers presented at the conference for possible inclusion in an edited volume, to be published after suitable revision by a reputable publisher under the title, “African Development: Myths and Realities”. WIDER is the World Institute for Development Economics Research, based in Helsinki and part of the United Nations University.

If you are interested in presenting a paper, please submit an abstract online by Friday 12 December 2008, midday (GMT). If accepted for the conference, all authors will need to submit completed papers by Friday 13 March 2009 for inclusion in the final programme.

PhD candidates

Ph.D./D.Phil candidates must complete the submission form on the conference website first and then email a full paper to csae.conference@economics.ox.ac.uk. A draft paper or full outline may also be considered.

Participants requesting funding

There is a limited budget to fund African presenters who are currently living and working in Africa and who will be travelling from Africa to the conference. Funding will cover all participation and travel costs for successful applicants. Applicants must complete the submission form on the conference website first and then email a full paper to csae.conference@economics.ox.ac.uk. Please mark your application ‘applying for funding’.
