Background: there is a wide gap between NGOs and academic researchers and this conference aims at improving the dialogue between the two communities. NGOs, whether based in Africa or elsewhere, are often unaware of recent research findings on issues such as, for example, the design of credit programmes, or the impact on poverty of foreign direct investment. Similarly, most researchers are poorly informed about the concerns of NGOs. This unique conference has been designed jointly by CSAE and members of the NGO community with a view to stimulating dialogue between those involved in the policy making process, those involved with the impact of those policies, and those carrying out research work on these issues.
This conference is jointly organised by ActionAid, CAFOD, CSAE, Christian
Aid, Oxfam and Save the Children Fund.
